What This Policy Covers

This page explains what happens to information when you visit baysidesmog.com. It covers the website. What you tell us on the phone, or at the counter when you bring a vehicle in, is part of doing the test rather than part of running this site, and it is not governed by this page. The test itself is a state program: results go to the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the DMV because California requires it, and that has nothing to do with this website.

What The Site Collects

There is no contact form here, no account to create and no payment to make. Getting a smog check means calling the shop or driving in, and a phone call is not something a website can see.

What the site gathers automatically is ordinary visit data: which pages were opened, roughly how long they were read, the kind of device and browser used, the general area a visit came from at about the level of a city, and the search or link that led here. One thing more is recorded. When someone taps a Call button, the tap is counted. What is counted is that a call was started, not the call itself, not the number it came from and nothing said on it.

Cookies And Measurement

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, and it stores cookies in your browser so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one. The typeface the pages are set in is served by Google Fonts, which means Google sees the request your browser makes for it. The map in the Hours and Location section is embedded from Google Maps, and loading it lets Google set its own cookies, exactly as it would if you had opened Google Maps yourself.

Advertising

The site also carries a Google Ads tag, which does two things. It tells us whether an ad was in front of someone before they called, and it lets Google show our ads again to people who have been here. Both work through cookies Google sets. What comes back to us is a count, not a name.

Who Else Sees A Visit

• Vercel hosts the site and keeps standard server logs.
• Google runs the analytics, the ads tag, the embedded map and the fonts.

Each of them handles what it receives under its own privacy policy, and we do not control what they do with it.

What We Do With It

We read the totals to see what people came looking for, whether the site is bringing calls in, and whether an ad is worth running. That is the whole use. We do not sell visitor information, we have never been paid for it, and we do not intend to be.

Your Choices

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings. Google publishes a browser extension that switches Google Analytics off on every site you visit, and its own ad settings let you turn off personalised ads. The pages work the same either way. Nothing here is held back behind tracking.

Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. There is still no agreed standard for what a site should do when it receives one, so this site does not act on it. California law asks us to say so plainly, and that is what this paragraph is.

If You Live In California

You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to delete it, and ask us not to sell or share it. We do not sell it. Because the site has no form and no account, there is usually nothing filed under your name from the website at all. Records from an actual smog test are a separate matter and are kept for as long as the Bureau of Automotive Repair requires. Call or write and we will answer you.

Children

This site is written for adults getting a vehicle tested. We do not knowingly collect anything from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, call the shop and it will be removed.

When This Page Changes

If the shop adds online booking, a contact form, online payment or anything else that asks for real details, this page is updated before that goes live, and the date at the top moves with it.
